Carlisle United have arranged a friendly for next Tuesday with a view to boosting midfielder Jason Kennedy’s fitness.

Pressley last month admitted the popular 32-year-old could leave the club in order to gain first-team football after his long injury lay-off.

But the Blues have so far been unable to find a suitable club to take Kennedy on a short-term loan and, instead, the club have organised a friendly.

“The one difficulty is we didn’t want Jason to go out for the entirety of the season. We wanted him to go for a period of time, maybe six weeks, to get games where it would benefit him, get him up to speed and then he’ll come back,” Pressley said. “We think he still has a role at this football club.

“That was our intention [but] we can’t find a club who that suits just now.

“So, the next stage is we are organising our own friendly games. We have a friendly on Tuesday where, hopefully, Jason will get 90 minutes and then we’ll try to do the same again.

"So, it might take 3-4 weeks to really get him up to speed. But then, hopefully, we will have a fully fit Jason Kennedy that will add real quality to the squad.”
