Former Penrith AFC manager James "Jim" Nichols is looking forward to taking charge of Carlisle City Football Club, having been appointed as their new boss.

He linked-up with the D Marks Carpet Stadium outfit this afternoon after the departure of James Tose and Jonny Allan on Tuesday.

Nichols will be assisted by Alan Inglis, a former Annan Athletic and Workington Reds player.

A City club statement read: "We are delighted to announce that we have today appointed Jim Nichols as our new first-team manager.

"Jim leaves his post at South of Scotland League club Mid Annandale to make the switch to the D Marks Carpets Stadium. He has previous managerial experience at Penrith and he has also coached at Kendal Town, after ending his playing career as a goalkeeper at clubs, including Northwich Victoria and Newcastle Blue Star.

"Jim will be assisted by Alan Inglis, who has played locally for Workington Reds, Annan Athletic and Gretna."

Nichols said: "I’m looking forward to it. It came a bit out the blue, but we have been asked to do it, so we’ll do it.

"It’s a club going in the right direction. We know a bit about the area and the club.

“I think it needs to be placed on record how well James and Jonny have done."

The pair will take charge for the first time when Carlisle City host Ellesmere Rangers in their re-arranged Hallmark Security League First Division Cup quarter-final tie on Saturday.

City are currently sixth in the Hallmark Security League First Division North table.
