Rotherham's manager says he "doesn't foresee any more problems" in his bid to sign a striker - which could enable Jerry Yates to return to Carlisle.

Yates, who recently returned to the Millers after an impressive loan stint at United, remains the Blues' top attacking target ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

They have been forced to be patient, though, with the Championship club waiting to bring a new frontman in before considering further attacking departures.

Carlisle are continuing to do all they can to bring the 22-year-old Yates back to Brunton Park.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne had hoped to conclude a deal for an unnamed striker before their game against Leeds on Saturday.

After that day's 2-1 defeat he said: "It didn't happen before the weekend, obviously.

"It was not through lack of effort from either club really. In the end, I spoke to the manager of the other club. He said he needed him for the weekend, that he needed him for his squad.

"It's something we will have to revisit [on Monday] morning. I don't foresee any more problems but until I physically see the player at my training ground I'll have an air of pessimism around me.

"I still think I will welcome him into the club [this] week."

Yates has made three sub appearances for Rotherham since he was recalled.

That followed a seven-goal stint for Carlisle, six coming in his last seven games after being moved from a wide role into attack.

Warne has said there may be departures before Thursday's 11pm deadline.

In the Rotherham Advertiser, he said: "Anyone who isn't in the 18 wants to go. I understand it. They have to think of themselves. I have to think of the team and the club.

"There might be some outs if I think they suit us. If I think the outs don't suit us, the players have to sit down and shut up, really."

Carlisle are believed to be considering other attacking options in the market.
