Juniors from Cumberland Fell Runners played their part in the final event of the 2018/2019 Cumbria Cross Country Series.

Rickerby Park in Carlisle was the location for the final race last Sunday and CFR Juniors turned out in force on a sunny but chilly afternoon.

The first race of the day was the Under-11s. This age group always attracts the most runners and has been hotly contested the whole of the series.

CFR had no less than eight runners taking part but it was three Kendal AC runners who led the field away from the start into the distance.

However, as the field came back into sight, along the bank of the river Eden, it was CFR youngsters that had taken control of the race.

A brilliant effort saw CFR juniors finishing in the top three places on the day with Mylo Jewell coming home as the overall winner, from Ben Wrigley in second and their clubmate Leyton Roberts in third.

Zoe Brannon also had a great run to finish third girl and third overall in the series, with Mylo finishing second overall in the series.

Next up it was the turn of the Under-13s and the lone CFR representative in this race was Fayth Bowness who had a great run to finish in fifth.

Fayth is one of the CFR junior runners that have been selected to run for Cumbria at the inter-counties cross country finals in Loughborough in March.

Jude Davidson, Emily Swarbrick and newcomer to the CFR junior ranks, Zhu Li McGurk, all had brilliant races in the under-15s.

Jude finished fourth in the boys race with Emily and Zhu Li finishing fifth and sixth respectively in the girls race.

These results saw Emily finish the Under-15 girls series in second place overall.

And in a further bonus, Emily, her sister Olivia Swarbrick and Mia Easthope will all be joining Fayth running for Cumbria at the inter-counties event at Loughborough.
