Adam Collin says new boss Steven Pressley has been careful not to impose too many changes on a Carlisle United side in good form.

The keeper, whose latest clean sheet helped the Blues see off Cheltenham, says Pressley has recognised that the Blues do not need a big overhaul.

Pressley’s first game in charge saw United make it seven wins out of eight as they went fourth in League Two.

Cumbrian Collin said: “The new manager’s come in and has got straight on with it.

“There wasn’t too much wrong. It’s not like we were bottom of the league and the manager got sacked. We’re in a good position and there’s a lot of confidence in the squad.

“Everybody’s been impressed in the few days he’s had with us. He hasn’t changed much – he’s introduced a couple of different ideas and we’ve bought into it.

“Otherwise there’s not a lot to change at the minute so it’s been pretty smooth. He is very clear in his thoughts and his methods and somebody I think the lads will enjoy working with.”

Collin felt United’s 2-0 win against the Robins was an important response after the previous week’s 3-0 loss at Northampton.

“At Northampton we could have been two or three up at half-time, and generally in this league the team that scores first goes on to win,” the 34-year-old said.

“It was a disappointing result but we’ve bounced back and put it behind us. It was important to get points back on the board.

“As a goalkeeper you always look for a clean sheet and as a team it’s one of the first things we talked about when we got back in the dressing room.

“We always go out with the aim to keep a clean sheet and we worked hard over the [previous] two days on being nice and solid.”

United are in strong form at Brunton Park having won their last five home fixtures.

That is in stark contrast to their autumn struggles when they went a record five straight league games without a goal or a point.

Collin said: “I think we’ve played well all season. When we got beat in those five games I felt we played well but just couldn’t put the ball in the net.

“We’re getting our rewards now.

“The fans are getting behind us - they can see the work we’re putting in defensively and attacking wise.”

Collin agreed with Pressley’s view that United needed to ensure they signed the right characters this month so as not to disrupt a “close-knit” dressing room.

A trip to 18th-placed Port Vale this weekend now awaits. The keeper added: “Anyone can beat anyone in this league and there were a couple of surprise results again on Saturday, like Crewe beating MK Dons.

“We will be going to Port Vale full of confidence. There’s a big pitch so hopefully we can exploit some gaps and come away with three points.”
