New boy Arthur Gnahoua says he’s excited to join Carlisle United’s promotion push.

The former Shrewsbury man today completed a short-term move to Brunton Park.

The attacking midfielder agreed a deal until the end of the season following his departure from the Shrews last week.

Gnahoua is unlikely to be the last new face in at fourth-placed United, who are chasing more signings.

The 26-year-old said he is ready for the challenge of helping the Blues.

“It’s really exciting,” he said. “It’s a big club, so I’m looking forward to playing a part with the team. I’m really excited to do that.

“It’s a bit of pressure [being in the promotion race], but it’s good. If we get promoted, it’s going to look good, so I’m looking forward to it.”

United have been tracking Gnahoua for some time and the winger said he had initially expected to join on loan, before his permanent exit from Shrewsbury was agreed.

He had been with the League One club since summer 2017 having joined them from Kidderminster.

He spent seven weeks on loan with AFC Fylde this campaign.

On his time with the Shrews, he said: “It was a good experience for me. I didn’t get enough games, so I had to leave the club, but it was good and I really enjoyed it. The players were really nice to me.

“When I went to AFC Fylde, I knew Carlisle were interested. Obviously, now it’s happened and I’m looking forward to it.

“The manager [Steven Pressley] has told me where he wants me to play, so he is going to help me get on the ball as much as I can.

“I like to be where the ball is. If the ball is in the middle, I like to be in the middle. If it’s on the wing, I like to go on the wing. I like to be free on the pitch, really. I’m not that fast but, when I’m on the ball, I like to think I’m pretty quick.”

Gnahoua could be involved for the Cumbrians at Port Vale this weekend. His spell with the Blues starts with back-to-back away games, with a trip to Crewe coming after the Vale Park encounter.

He added: “I know there is going to be a lot of travelling, which is going to be hard, but we’re just going to have to get on with it.

“Hopefully I can get some goals and that’ll be good for me and the team. I’m really looking forward to it. I hope I can make an impact.”

Gnahoua, like United’s other players, will be adapting to life under a new boss, Pressley having taken charge last week. He said: “I hadn’t met him before. But my agent knew him and told me he is a good guy.

“[United] have just told me to go for it and show my ability. Hopefully I can keep playing at this level or maybe higher.”
