Carlisle United have today confirmed the signing of former Shrewsbury winger Arthur Gnahoua on a short-term deal.

The 26-year-old has joined the Cumbrians until the end of the season having left the Shrews on Friday.

Gnahoua has been on United's radar for some time and the Blues have now completed a deal.

The pacy player becomes their second January addition after the earlier arrival of Preston loan striker Connor Simpson.

Gnahoua had been with Shrewsbury since the summer of 2017 after a move from Kidderminster, making 25 appearances for the League One club and scoring three goals.

He recently spent a seven-week spell on loan with National League side AFC Fylde, scoring twice in seven outings.

The London-born player, who is of French-Ivorian descent, had previously been with Stalybridge and Macclesfield, also having short spells with Whitehawk, Colwyn Bay and CF Gava in Spain.

Although rules state a player can only play for two clubs in one season, Carlisle say they are free to play Gnahoua because of the short-term nature of his recent stint with Fylde. Short-term loans are still allowed at non-league level but not in the EFL.

United hope Gnahoua is the first of a number of additions before the end of the January transfer window.
