Jack Sowerby says he is happy at Carlisle – but still in the dark about whether he will stay for the season.

The midfielder plays the penultimate game of his loan spell against Cheltenham at Brunton Park tomorrow.

Carlisle want to extend the 23-year-old’s stay from Fleetwood but manager Joey Barton recently suggested Sowerby could come back into first-team contention at his parent club.

Sowerby said: “I’ve got two games left then my loan is up, so I’ll just have to see what happens over these next two weeks.

“I’ve not heard anything and I’m not sure what the club have said at this stage.”

Asked if he would be happy to remain in Cumbria, he said: “I would be. I’ve enjoyed my time here, got games, scored goals and we're in a good position in the league.”

He added: “There is a real opportunity here. We know we’re a good team and what we can do – we've just got to keep going.”

Sowerby has hit good form recently after returning to his favoured central position.

That followed earlier stints at right-back and wing-back.

He said: “I’ve recently been getting my rewards, by scoring a few goals and playing back in midfield.

“It’s my best position – I can get forward and get goals, but I’m just happy to be playing and if I have to do a job at right back then I’ll do it.”

Sowerby hopes Carlisle can bounce back against the Robins tomorrow having seen their six-game winning run end at Northampton last weekend.

On the Blues’ 3-0 reverse at the hands of Keith Curle’s team, Sowerby said: “We got off to a slow start, got our way back into it, had a few chances, but when we came out for the second half, it was a slow start again and they got the better of us.

“The run was always going to come to an end. We wanted it to go on longer but it wasn’t to be. Now we’ve got to try and start another run.”

Sowerby admitted the loss of Fleetwood colleague Ashley Nadesan, and Rotherham frontman Jerry Yates, hurt United last weekend.

“They’re both top quality players and have scored a lot of goals for us,” he said. “Losing them stopped us counter-attacking a bit quicker.”
