A rifle club in Carlisle played host to a Scottish Target Shooting event over the weekend.
The air rifle event took place on Saturday, before the air pistol competition a day later, where The Cumberland News Rifle Club’s own David Owen finished as the overall winner.
Competitors were hoping to earn enough points so that they can be considered for selection to represent Great Britain at World Cups and other major European events.
“It went very well. We had shooters from all over Scotland and the North of England,” said Owen.
“For the air rifle competition, we had the bulk of the Scottish squad because it’s considered as a Scottish shoot. The ones that didn’t come were competing elsewhere.
“We had one of the English shooters who was looking for a place in their squad, as well. Her shooting was outstanding.”
Meanwhile Owen also said the club, based at the Sheepmount Stadium, has a number of talented young shooters within their ranks.
He added: “We have some really good shooters coming up. But, unfortunately, most of them are hampered by finances.
“That’s an issue but we are trying to work around it.
"There’s certainly some showing some good promise, though.”
