West Cumberland Orienteering Club continued their series of night events with a more technical event at Latrigg Top, overlooking Keswick.

The area suited top local fell runner Carl Bell who took the win on the 4km long course in 32:22 minutes. Junior, Joe Sunley was second in 34:25, with Graham Patten (WAROC) third in 34:32 and first lady was Niamh Hunter in 13th.

On the tricky 3km short course Wilf Teasdale continued his consistent form taking the win in 31:04, from Ruben Razzetti (BL) and Ian Teasdale. First lady was Natalie Hawkrigg in sixth and first female junior was Clare Rodger in eighth.

On the 3.4km nighthawk course the win went to Janette McHendry in 48:55, ahead of juniors Andy and Jack Proctor and Daisy Rennie.

On Sunday, the club held an informal event on the compact but complex open fell of Slatefell near Cockermouth. Over 60 runners participated with courses suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve their navigational skills.

On the 3.7km long course Joe Sunley had another fast and accurate run to take the win in 25:21, ahead of Phil Winskill and Joe Hudd. Caitlin Pearson was first lady in 14th.

On the 2.6km short course Stuart Crawford had a good run to take the win in 26:04, only three seconds ahead of the impressive Daisy Rennie in second and a minute ahead of daughter Emma in third. First male junior was the fast-improving Daniel Heppell in seventh, with younger brother Toby in eighth.

On the 1.69km novice course, Hiroki Holmes showed good form to take the win in 17:42 from George Rennie and Ruth Walker.

The night series continues over the coming weeks with more difficult courses and terrain; at Buttermere, Leaps and Blea Tarn (Eskdale).
