Workington Reds manager Lee Andrews is targeting the next four matches to launch the fight to avoid relegation.

The west Cumbrians slipped further behind the pack after a 4-1 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity and are now 10 points off safety in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division.

But Andrews says the team have an opportunity to make progress with four successive games coming up.

“I want us to be unbeaten in these four and, obviously, pick up as many points as possible but we have to stop conceding soft goals,” said Andrews.

“We conceded four on Saturday which could have been avoided which far outweighed the good moments we had.

"Their keeper had to make three or four good saves but it was virtually all over when we scored.”

Reds have two at home against Bamber Bridge and Mickleover, followed by trips to Grantham and bottom-of-the-table North Ferriby.

Reds have been trying to bring in new bodies to freshen up the squad but have already had a couple of rebuffs.

Two players they were interested in have now signed for rival Evo-Stik Premier clubs because they were closer to where they live – Reds’ problem for years.

“Steven [Rudd, Andrews' No.2] and myself have been going round with our mobiles stuck to our ears, we’ve spent so much time talking to clubs and players," said Andrews.

“I’m hoping we might have a new face in next week and we are also in touch with a Premier League club and a Championship club about bringing players on loan.

“We all know it isn’t easy because of our geographical position but we are trying everything we can.

“Nobody is giving up and we are all in this together – players, staff, directors and the fans.

"The supporters can certainly play their part in getting behind the team in the next two home games."
