Workington bounced back from their heaviest defeat of the season to record another fine win in the FA Trophy.

Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Stalybridge Celtic put them into today’s draw for the first round proper for the second year in succession.

But it was the way they fought back to regain the lead after being pegged back that pleased the management duo the most.

Joint boss Lee Andrews said: "One of the worrying things so far this season has been the way we have reacted after conceding a goal. We just seem unable to cope and lose confidence.

"We stressed beforehand that there are times in a game when there will be set-backs but we have to rise above that and not let it affect us.

"So, when we went ahead but they levelled six minutes later, it was encouraging to see our reaction, especially when we were able to get back in front again.

"We have never doubted the spirit and commitment of the lads and that shone through in this win.

"What we need to do now is translate that form into our next two league games before we get round to thinking about the next round of the FA Trophy."

Reds won with two goals from Scott Allison, the second from the penalty spot, but he was forced to come off 15 minutes from the end after complaining of feeling unwell.

The squad had to travel without defender Kyle May, who had work commitments while Jamie Mellen was banned.

New signing Sean Paterson started the game on the bench but was brought on for the last 10 minutes after meeting his team-mates for the first time at the midweek training session.

Reds banked £5,000 from the win and will be hoping for an attractive fixture in today’s draw when teams from the National League enter for the first time.
