Chairman David Stout believes the international recognition former Carlisle Rugby Club players are getting is great for the Warwick Road outfit.

Carlisle-born Chris Harris, who qualifies to play for Scotland through his grandmother who is from Dumfries, came off the bench to earn his fifth cap in their 54-17 win over Fiji last Saturday and has again been named among their substitutes for today's game against South Africa (5.20pm kick-off).

Meanwhile, Harris’ Newcastle Falcons team-mate, and another ex-Carlisle player, Gary Graham this week was called into the Scotland squad for their remaining two November internationals despite being an unused call-up to England’s 2018 Six Nations squad on residency grounds.

"It’s credit to the club in lots of ways in the way we provide the opportunity for players to perform," Stout said.

"The great thing about having different levels in the game is players can progress and play at a higher level if they are good enough, and we encourage that.

"It’s great when players go on."

On the return of Graham, son of former Scotland prop George, to the Scottish set-up, Stout added: "I think everyone who knows Gary will know his true allegiance is to Scotland but England came in first.

"But it is nice now that he is playing probably where he should be."

Elsewhere, former Penrith Rugby Club player Will Addison is with the Ireland squad.

The 26-year-old centre is eligible for Joe Schmidt’s side as his mum hails from County Fermanagh.
