Rotherham manager Paul Warne has not ruled out bringing Carlisle United loanee Jerry Yates back into the Millers' first-team picture in January.

The forward is on a half-season loan at Brunton Park and has been a regular in John Sheridan's side.

His Championship parent club are considering their options for the 22-year-old, whose future with United beyond December is currently unclear.

Warne told The Star that he has been impressed with Yates' showings for Carlisle and will discuss the next step with the player.

"Jerry is the one that has impressed me the most," said Warne when discussing Rotherham's various loaned-out players.

"He is playing out of position, we have our scouts go and watch him and he is the one getting the best reviews and his work-rate is a joke.

"Out of all of them he is probably the stand out one.

"I might consider it [bringing him back] - it depends on a lot of things if I am being truly honest.

"It depends if Jerry wants to come back. If he is playing every week it's a great feeling.

"When you first leave a club and go on loan you are devastated, but then after a few weeks training with them you get the psyche that you are their player, so I will have a chat with Jerry a bit later on.

"I will tell him what I think and what he thinks and we will come to a decision for both of us.

"If I can loan players in that are better than the team I have got, which is the ideal dream, then it will be difficult for Jerry to get in. But the way he is doing at the moment he is in our good thoughts."

Yates has so far made 20 appearances for the Cumbrians, often in wide positions, scoring once.

He is one of a cluster of Blues players on short-term deals which will be up at the turn of the year.

Among those are three of their other four loanees - Ashley Nadesan, Jack Sowerby and Adam Campbell.

Fleetwood's decision to deny Carlisle permission to field Nadesan in the FA Cup has raised speculation over their January plans for the striker.

A fifth loanee, Regan Slater, is with the Blues for the full season.

Of their permanent players, defender Anthony Gerrard is on six-month terms with keeper Louis Gray's three-month deal lasts until January.

Six-month deals for young midfielders Jack Egan and Jordan Holt also run to January.
