Border City Amateur Boxing Club are all set to hold their first home show of the season.

Taking place at Carlisle Racecourse tonight in front of a capacity crowd of 300, Dylan Atkinson tops the bill, while some of the young prospects at the club will be making their debuts with a total of 17 boxers representing the Carlisle club.

Coach Ian Archibald admits that Border City cannot wait for the show to get under way with the fighters having trained hard in preparation, in recent weeks.

"Dylan Atkinson is topping the bill. He is boxing against Robert Taylor who is from Scotland," said Archibald.

"Jordan Ryan is taking on a lad called Kai Battista from Dunston ABC.

"A couple of young lads will be making their debuts, having their first bouts, which will be good to get that first experience under their belts.

"We are just all waiting for tonight to come really and we’re all looking forward to it."

Border City have used Carlisle Racecourse as a venue before, and Archibald admits the club enjoys using the facilities at the Durdar Road track.

He said: "It is a good venue.

"You have the ring in the middle section and you have the changing rooms downstairs which works well.”

There will be clubs coming to the show from Scotland, Manchester, Preston, Newcastle and Hartlepool as well as near neighbours Carlisle Villa ABC, who are coached by Jimmy Brennan.

Archibald believes that shows how well respected the club, which has two former national champions in the form of Jamie Rowland and Brodie Stephenson, is in the area.

"They are coming from all over to it," he added.

"It shows we are doing something right."

Border City would also like to thank all the local businesses, such as Penrith-based Cumbrian Homes Ltd, Wigton’s Giles Civil Engineering Ltd, KC Superbikes, ADP Painting Ltd, Borderbrite Ltd and Budget Exhaust and Tyre Centre in Carlisle, for sponsoring their respective bouts.

Recently, Border City’s North West champion Lewis Taylor reached the national quarter-finals before he lost out to Liverpool’s Tom Langstaff.
