Teenage Cumbrian driver Frank Bird will look to end his 2018 Formula Renault Eurocup Championship season in style as he heads to Barcelona this weekend.

The promising young Tech 1 Racing team driver, originally from Penrith, will again be behind the wheel of the Paul Bird Motorsport, Be Wiser Insurance, Hager, Loco Energy Drink and Frank Bird Poultry-backed car when he goes in search of more points to add to his tally.

Bird, 19, has shown good form in many of the rounds while up against some of the best drivers in Europe this season.

And he also recently was at the sharp end when he tested an F3 car in Hungary.

He has raced at the Spanish track before and has enjoyed some success there in the past so, with some much overdue good luck, he hopes to be challenging for a podium place for the French-based Tech 1 Racing team that he drives for.

In the Formula Renault Eurocup Championship this campaign, Bird has competed at some of the finest circuits across Europe at Paul Ricard, Monza, Nürburgring, Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, as well as Silverstone’s circuit which is in the UK.

“It’s been a good season all things considered,” said Frank, the son of Paul Bird Motorsport owner, Paul.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend in Barcelona as it’s one of my favourite tracks.

“It should be even better as the track has recently been resurfaced and we are testing there the day before which should allow us to check it all out.

“I’m hoping to end the season with some good results to reward the team and our sponsors for their hard work and support this year and to say thanks to my family.

“Without their help, I couldn’t have achieved this.”

Meanwhile, at Donington Park, Leicestershire, this week, the Be Wiser Ducati pairing of John McGuinness and Martin Jessopp have been testing the factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati Panigale Rs in readiness for next month’s Macau Grand Prix in China.

There, they will contest the event for Paul Bird’s Penrith-based Be Wiser Ducati team.
