Workington Town coach Leon Pryce refuses to be downbeat ahead of one final push for promotion against Swinton Lions on Sunday.

Pryce knows he will have to go into the game with a number of key players absent but says he will prepare positively for the clash with the Lions.

“It is what it is and we just have to get on with it. We won’t moan but will try and get ready for the game as best we can,” he said.

Town’s 27-8 defeat at Odsal on Sunday meant Bradford Bulls were promoted alongside York City Knights, leaving the Cumbrians to scrap it out with the Championship’s bottom side Swinton to see which one will be playing League One rugby next year.

In a tough, gruelling contest at the weekend Town lost two of their senior players through injury while a third, Fuifui Moimoi, was sent-off.

Pryce said: “Oliver and ‘Penky’ both suffered muscle injuries and I don’t think they will be ready in time to play at Swinton.

“Fuifui has been charged and is looking at a three-match ban which will come into effect for Sunday, so that could be our three most experienced players missing out.”

Sam Forrester was an absentee with a broken bone in his hand while Perry Singleton was also nursing an injury.

In addition two players have booked holidays believing the season would end on Sunday before the Rugby League dreamed up the notion of a play-off between the bottom Championship side and the losing League One play-off finalists.

The toss of the coin for the right to stage the final game on Sunday was done at Odsal, but away from the main media who were interviewing the coaches.

A really poor, amateurish video was posted on Twitter showing the spin of the coin which went Swinton’s way.

Because of the late decision by the RFL to add an extra week to the league season, Swinton will also have problems ahead of Sunday.
