Kevin Thompson was back in action as the 22nd instalment of the Clash of the Titans took place at the Stainburn Marquee on Saturday.

The event saw two featured bouts as Just Grind MMA standouts Thompson and Dan Grierson took centre stage.

Thompson faced a formidable challenge in the shape of Scunthorpe-based ex-pro Jody Meikle who, in 69 bouts in the paid ranks, was only stopped on three occasions. The bout went the distance but Thompson boxed superbly, winning every round and landing several huge shots with only his opponent’s ringcraft saving him from the canvas.

Grierson faced Kyle Patterson from Johnsons Gym, Newcastle. And it was a three-round war as both men traded blows in a bout that was fast paced.

It demonstrated a high level of boxing skills, before Grierson was on the wrong end of a split decision verdict from the judges with the result hingeing on the scoring of a close second round.

In other featured bouts young Workington-based standouts Alex Nicholson and Shane Roe put in two great performances.

The freakishly powerful Nicholson blasted through his opponent Luke Calvary of Newcastle, a huge punch ending the fight 23 seconds into the contest. Roe boxed excellently to gain a shut-out victory over the tough Aaron Kendall.

In heavyweight action Ray Simpson of Johnsons Gym maintained his unbeaten record as he bested Carl Ward.

Kevin Thompson thanked The Hungry Caterpillar café and Bistro, Joe Bananas, BMC Electrical, W Marshall & Son Quality butchers, Eilbeck Motors Ltd, Key 2 Sports and Nutrition, Xtreme Fitness, Future Private Hire, Thomson Electrical, ABC Scaffolding services, API Fitness for their support.
