Carlisle United 1 Blackburn Rovers 5: Carlisle United were on the end of a Blackburn Rovers masterclass as the Cumbrians were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Inspired by Bradley Dack, who bagged a brace, the Championship side showed their higher-league class to claim a 5-1 win.

Adam Armstrong was also at the double, with Kasey Palmer scoring before half-time, Hallam Hope netting United's goal in stunning style.

Former United striker Danny Graham wasn't included in the away squad, but Blackburn still took only 90 seconds to break the deadlock.

Dack slotted through Armstrong who found the top corner from the edge of the penalty box.

And Dack went from provider to finisher with just over five minutes played. The former Gillingham midfielder slotted into the empty net after Craig Conway's right-wing cross had been spilled by Joe Fryer.

Macauley Gillesphey then came close to pulling one back for Carlisle on 10 minutes, only for his left-footed free-kick to crack against David Raya's upright.

But the Blues did halve the deficit on the 22nd minute when Hope rifled home from long-range.

The entertaining first half continued on the 34th minute when Dack turned and found the top corner from the edge of the area.

Things went from bad to worse for Carlisle five minutes before half-time when Kasey Palmer slotted home goal number four for Blackburn.

The away team added their fifth 10 minutes into the second period when Armstrong found the net after Dack's through-ball.

Dack was undoubtedly the best player on the park and only a fingertip save from Fryer denied him his hat-trick on 65 minutes, tipping the 24-year-old's shot on to the bar.

Despite some late Carlisle pressure, goalkeeper Raya was not to be beaten again.

Centre-back Anthony Gerrard came in for his Carlisle United debut in the Cumbrians' Carabao Cup tie clash against Blackburn Rovers.

In total, Blues boss John Sheridan made four changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Northampton on Saturday.

Macaulay Gillesphey, Regan Slater and Adam Campbell also came into the starting line-up, with Danny Grainger, George Glendon and Richie Bennett dropping to the bench, while injured midfielder Mike Jones isn't in the squad.

Gary Liddle captained the home side in Grainger's absence.
