Whitehaven will face a pointless two weeks to the end of the season if they lose Sunday’s home game with Hunslet.

As things stand, with three games left in the regular season, Haven and Hunslet are the two teams outside the play-offs but still in with a shout of making them.

If Haven can win on Sunday and then follow-up by beating Coventry Bears at home, they will go to York for the final game with an outside chance of qualifying.

Coach Carl Forster says: “We had four cup finals after the Doncaster defeat and we have just ticked one off after the win at Hemel.

“Sunday’s game is massive because if we lose then it’s all over and the last two games of the season will be pointless for us.

“I love the club and didn’t want to leave but that’s been sorted now and all I want to do is go out on a high.

"We are a tight-knit group who enjoy each other’s company and we are all determined to put in big performances over the next three weeks.

“Hopefully, that will extend to four or five weeks and we can keep the season going as long as we did last year.”

Of course, there’s still a possibility that either Hunslet or Whitehaven could finish in sixth and still make the play-offs if the re-structure proposals are voted in at Friday’s extraordinary meeting.

The switch to a 14-club Championship, with changes to promotion and relegation this year (two months before the season ends) was rejected recently but an EGM was called to thrash out a decision on re-structure once and for all.

If those proposals were accepted three teams would be promoted from League One – two automatically – and one through the play-offs which would involve clubs finishing third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

As they sit now Hunslet are sixth, two points and one place better off than their hosts on Sunday.
