Readers have come out with touching messages for a much-loved garage after it's sale was announced.

Caldew Electrical’s Matty Boak has purchased the former MGM Motors garage on Morton Street in the city’s Caldewgate area, bringing to a close one of the longest standing SAAB garages in the UK.

MGM Motors had worked on the site for over 30 years. Although the focus was on the Swedish vehicles, the company also provided MOTs and services for a range of makes and models.

Here's what you, the readers, had to say.

Deborah Wearing was extremely complimentary to the former garage in her farewell message.

She said: Malcolm Mitchinson - not only the best mechanic you are ever going to come across but I’m proud to call him my friend of over 40 years.

"Enjoy your retirement Malcolm, you deserve it. All the best from all of us at Brookside."

Kay Hendren said: "Such a legacy dad, well done."

Neil Walker was equally praising of the former garage, adding: "[I] have used Malcolm's for 30 years.

"Great bloke and garage. Sad to see him go.

"Have a great retirement."

Discussing why he decided to buy the premises, new owner Matty said: “It’s quite an architectural garage and I really enjoy the way the building looks.

"It’s a smart looking property located in the old part of the city.

"The purchase means that we are saying goodbye to one of the longest running SAAB dealers in the country, it’s the end of an era.”

With the purchase, Mr Boak is planning on dividing the building into a number of different lots.

Planning permission has already been approved for the site and work is due to begin next month.

Mr Boak said he expects it to take around two to three months for the garage to be transformed into the new premises."
