Train services between Carlisle and Maryport were suspended - after engineers found a potentially "cracked" piece of railway line.
The "cracked" rail is believed to have been near Wigton and safety inspections were carried out.
Customers are being warned their journeys could be extended by about 40 minutes as a result of the problems.
The issues was resolved by about 1.40pm.
