Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
The arrest of the Appleby man comes as officers investigate the reported rape of a woman aged in her late teens.
Reports are that an incident occurred in the early hours of this morning on a grassy area on Station Road, Appleby.
The man remains detained by police for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing, a Cumbria Constabulary spokesman said.
Police ask anyone with information to contact them on 101, referencing incident number 26 of 27th June. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
