A WEST Cumbrian production company is appealing for crowdfunding to help source a new film.

Maximillian Tyler from Drigg and Daniel McNicholas of Workington, who run Moonsick Productions, have started a Kickstarter page to try and get enough to begin filming in September.

They would like to make Wolfboy, a feature length film that tackles issues such as the loss of family and mental health, with the additional complications of a werewolf curse.

Actor, writer and musician Maximillian said: "The piece aims to raise awareness of various mental illnesses, and tackle the stigma surrounding such issues. Moonsick Productions has a diverse production team, including those that have been living with mental illness themselves."

Filming is due to start in mid September, with scenes to be shot at Eskdale, Birker Fell, Drigg beach, Egremont and Penrith.

Three actors are currently signed up to the production, with the rest of the casting to take place in September.

Daniel, an artist, will work on the film's visual effects, animation and conceptual art. He said: "We hope that the film will strengthen the state of the arts in the local area, and inspire future artists to pursue works of purpose and of meaning."

The film makers are also working with Bafta and Emmy-nominated director of photography Peter Tyler. He said: “West Cumbria is very much out on a limb when it comes to the Arts. We’re well over an hour from the M6, but the area is outstanding. Sandy beaches, mountains and lakes, great sunsets. Mostly unexploited on film due to its isolation. ‘Wolfboy’ will be filmed in West Cumbria and could really put us on the map, for all the right reasons.”

If funding for the project is successful they hope to bring the film to audiences by August next year.
