A fishmonger from Carlisle has been named a ‘master fishmongers’ at a special ceremony in London.
Hayden Cutting, who works at the award-winning Bells Fishmongers in Carlisle, received the certification from the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers in London.
The master fishmonger accolade is reserved for those with at least ten years’ experience as a fishmonger.
Achievement of the master Fishmonger accolade is significant, reserved for only the finest of fishmongers, according to the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers.
It demonstrates their broad and balanced experiences within the industry, it celebrates their successes as a steward of the sea and commends their continued commitment to the trade.
Hayden said he was ‘exceptionally proud’ to receive the certification.
“It was a brilliant day at Fishmongers Hall, for the awards ceremony,” said Hayden.
“It was fantastic to see fishmongers of all ages and experience levels, receiving their certifications and awards, along with getting to meet those involved in the running of the standard and educational programs related to the industry.
“I was exceptionally proud and honoured, to formally receive my Master Fishmonger certification.
“It was an honour to stand alongside folks who have put in decades of hard work and dedication to this trade and have all received the highest certification for their efforts.

“I think I speak for everyone when I say if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.
“On my journey, first picking up the tools over 12 years ago, completing my apprenticeship, taking part in fish craft competitions, achieving my advanced certification, to finally becoming a Master fishmonger, every step of the way has been magical, especially when I have had so much encouragement and support from my family, those who I work with and my loyal customers too.
“Long may it continue.”
