A KNIFE was found on a housing estate in West Cumbria by a member of the public.
Police officers responded to the incident in Whitehaven today, September 30.
The knife had been discarded on a patch of grass behind Corkickle train station on Calder Avenue.
The item has been seized and disposed of by police officers.
In a post on social media, Cumbria Police wrote: "Section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 states it an offence to carry a 'bladed article' in a public place if the cutting edge exceeds 3 inches if the individual cannot provide a good reason or lawful authority.
"We urge the owner of this knife to rethink their choice of accessory in the future as it could land them in a pair of metal bracelets and in one of our cells for the night."
