AN inquest has opened into the death of a Silloth man who died in hospital after falling and breaking his ribs at home.
Kenneth Ostle, 76, died on September 4, 2024, in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle as a result of the fall he suffered at his home on Fell Close.
Mr Ostle was admitted to the emergency department in Carlisle on August 24.
His condition deteriorated, and he subsequently died on September 4.
Area Coroner for Cumbria, Ms Kirsty Gomersal, said that a post-mortem examination was carried out.
This offered a cause of death of pleural effusion and haemorrhage, due to fractured ribs, due to a fall and ischaemic heart disease.
Offering her condolences to Mr Ostle's family and friends, Ms Gomersal set a provisional date for a conclusion to the inquest of February 25, 2025
