A DRIVER is in a 'critical condition' following a crash with a lorry on the A596 yesterday (September 25).
Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision involving a white HGV and a grey Ford Fiesta on the A596, near Aspatria.
The crash, at Heathfield Railway Bridge, was reported to officers at 11.28am.
The driver of the Fiesta, a man, in his forties, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in critical condition.
The driver of the HGV was not injured.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
A spokesperson said: "Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident 66 of September 25.
"You can also phone on 101."
The road remained closed much of the day yesterday with diversions put in place.
