CUMBRIA Police are continuing to patrol Penrith as part of Operation Enhance.

The operation aims to clamp down on antisocial behaviour and violence in communities across the county.

One £1 million of additional funding has been provided by the police, fire, and crime commissioner to tackle this type of activity.

Patrols are also taking place in other key areas like Carlisle, Whitehaven, Workington, and Maryport.

In a post on social media, Cumbria Police wrote: "We regularly have patrols in Penrith town centre as part of Operation Enhance – a Cumbria operation tackling anti-social behaviour and violence in our communities.

"Patrols will continue in the town with officers ready to respond to any incidents and help keep people safe.

"Operation Enhance is Cumbria Police's new county-wide crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence, alongside partners.

"Cumbria’s police, fire and crime commissioner secured an additional £1m of extra funding from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.

"There will be extra police patrols in areas identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour and/or serious violence across the county. These areas include areas of Carlisle, Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, Kendal, Penrith, Maryport, Cleator Moor, Ulverston and Bowness-on-Windermere.

"These high visibility patrols will also target those who commit serious violence in these areas too – including arson, robbery and violence including sexual assaults - to ensure the safety of our communities."
