Work to make a Brampton footpath safer for pedestrians will begin in January.
Cumberland Council plans to widen the footpath on Tree Road with a single way traffic scheme which will give priority to vehicles travelling downhill along Tree Road.
The improvements come after a campaign started by Tree Road resident John Robinson attracted hundreds of supporters.
One section of the path is 23.5 inches wide but narrows to 16.5 inches at the end making it difficult for people using mobility aids or pushchairs to use it.
Mr Robinson said at a meeting of Cumberland Council's highways and transport strategic board earlier this year: "Please give us a footpath and look after the safety of the public."
The work at Tree Road has been scheduled for January 12.
