AN award-winning chippie van has started serving its famous grub in the heart of Dalston.

The van, brought by the team behind Penrith's Angel Lane Chippie, made its debut in the village on Wednesday, September 18, and will serve every Wednesday going ahead from 5pm to 7pm.

It may also start operating on Saturdays.

This mobile service is a temporary solution after the closure of the Dalston Fryer chip shop.

The van will be stationed around the chip shop's location on the Square.

Owner Daniel Harding, whose chippie van was named a top-five finalist in the Mobile category at the prestigious Fish and Chip Awards 2023, said:  “We were asked by a lot of people in Dalston to come after the chip shop closed. We’ve done plenty of events in Dalston, so we’ve made it happen and hopefully, people can support it while it is there.

“Yesterday wasn’t too manic with it being our first night but it’s about getting the word out there.

"It was still a good night and we had a lot of people come back to say how good it was," he said.

Customers can pre-order their fish and chips up to two days in advance via the van’s website, www.thechippievan.co.uk, or order directly at the van.

Both cash and card payments are accepted.
