AFTER four years, a much-loved Cumbrian milk producer is preparing to close its doors.

Katherine's Jerseys, based at Fordsyke Farm, has been providing visitors from afar and locals with freshly pasteurised milk, milkshakes, and ice cream from the Jersey cows on-site since 2020.

The difference between a Jersey cow opposed to 'average milk' is that the product contains 18 per cent more protein, 20 per cent more calcium, and 25 per cent more butterfat, making for a much 'creamier milk'.

The final day of milk and milkshake sales at the farm, which also allows visitors to get another glimpse of Jersey cows in the yard, will be Monday, September 30.

Owner Katherine Jenkinson said: "I’d like the thank all our customers who’ve supported me locally and those who’ve travelled from afar - Yorkshire, Durham, Berwick upon Tweed.

"We're proud to have supported other Cumbrian businesses, selling their delicious products through our vending machine.

"It’s been the best four years, social media has been a great platform to promote Jersey cows, their milk and the dairy industry as a whole.

"The support has been fantastic and everyone has loved our calves in the yard and the calves have loved all the attention," she said.

To commemorate the final days of the business, Katherine will be hosting a special offering this weekend, Saturday 14 and Sunday, September 15.

The event will take place from 12pm to 7pm at Fordsyke Farm, Scaleby, located just five miles from Brampton and Longtown.

Fresh milk will be available alongside a selection of flavoured milkshakes and freshly scooped ice cream as well as discounts on stock such as coffee and chutneys.

Outside of this weekend, the business will be open as normal until the end of the month.
