Over 700 metres of underground cables need to be replaced, leaving residents living near Brampton without internet or landline services for 'nearly a month'.
The outage affects homes off the A689 in the Hallbankgate area, specifically within the CA8 2PR postcode area.
Openreach, the telecoms provider, states that 'extensive damage' done by a 'third party' working in the area led to the disconnect.
A spokesperson for Openreach stated: "Extensive damage to our underground network has been caused by a third party working in the area.
"It has caused a loss of phone and broadband for people in the Hallbankgate area of Brampton.
"This is a big job - our engineers need to replace more than 700 metres of underground cable direct into the ground, alongside a national speed limit road.
"We’re very sorry for the ongoing inconvenience this is causing and will complete the work as quickly as possible."
One resident from the area, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “They don’t seem to care about their customers.
“They said it would be fixed by September 4, now they are saying September 17. If it is 700 metres of cable, why aren’t they working on it already?
“There has been no sign of anyone.”
UPDATE (September 6): Contractors are expected to complete the work by the end of next week.
