THE Wave at Whitehaven Harbour has been lit up red this week.
This has been to mark Merchant Navy Day on Tuesday, September 3.
The Wave structure is regularly lit up in different colours to mark various occasions.
In a post on social media, the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners wrote: "We're lighting the Wave red this evening in honour of Merchant Navy Day.
"It's a special day each year when those across the maritime industry fly the Red Ensign to remember the sacrifices of Merchant Navy seafarers and fishers.
"It's also about celebrating all things maritime and an opportunity to promote the dependence on merchant seafarers, who are responsible for more than 95% of the UK’s trade."
