Support acts for a Japanese rock band performing in Cumbria have been announced.

Melt Banana, known for their blend of hardcore punk and noise rock, will play Carlisle’s The Brickyard on September 10.

Melt Banana formed in 1992, but found more success in the US and UK than in their own country, gaining a small but dedicated fan base among American and European punk rock fans.

Although their music sounds noticeably different from any sort of traditional punk, it contains some punk elements: shrieking vocals, overdriven guitars, and one-and-a-half-minute songs.

Melt Banana’s unique style comes as a result of the distinctly piercing vocals of lead singer Yasuko O., as well as the frenzied, effect-charged playing of guitarist Agata.

The Carlisle show will feature two acts opening for Melt Banana – Ichi’s Ghost and Glucksfall.

Ichi’s Ghost is a Carlisle-based dance and ambient producer who has previously performed at The Brickyard opening for post-punk band Snapped Ankles, performing music described as ‘broadcasting alien sounds that probe your brainstem’.

They have released two EPs – Night Water and Smokey – available on all streaming platforms and YouTube.

Glucksfall is a collective made up of Stephen Benson, Joe Hiscoke, Mike Roper, Jonathan Sharp, Amy Tweddle, Jill Wallace.

They have performed numerous times as an improvisational group in various venues, including hosting a night-long event in Carlisle’s Source Collective venue called Into The Dark, which featured blends of spoken word, poetry, and musical accompaniment.

Tickets for the show are available on the venue’s website – thebrickyardonline.com.
