A petition has been launched to stop closure of the Denton Holme branch of the Cumberland Building Society.
The petition, which was launched on Thursday, August 22 on Change.org, aims to curtail the plans to close The Cumberland's Denton Holme location.
Under current plans, The Cumberland's Denton Holme site will close on Friday, November 8.
However residents say that the closure will 'impact both local businesses and residents.'
To date, the petition has amassed over 100 signatures.
Explaining why the petition had been launched, Simon Bickersteth wrote online, "The closure of this branch will impact both local businesses and residents who rely on this branch for their banking needs.
"When the closure goes ahead, the nearest branch will be Devonshire Street, which unlike the Denton Street branch has no parking close by.
"Denton Holme lost its Post Office some years ago, and the closure of the Cumberland Building Society will detrimentally impact the local community, and could act as another nail in the coffin for businesses along Denton Street."
Claire Deekes Cumberland Building Society chief customer officer allayed concerns surrounding the pending 'relocation' of the Denton Holme branch's services to its updated branch on English Street set to open on Monday, October 14.
She also confirmed that under the relocation plans, there will be no redundancies, with colleagues continuing to work across its various Carlisle branches.
She said: “The decision to relocate and change the way a branch operates is never easy, and we understand why customers enjoy having a branch in Denton Holme.
"We remain committed to providing accessible banking services in Carlisle and our significant investment into updating our nearby English Street branch, which is reopening on October 14, demonstrates our commitment to our region.
The Cumberland also provided more information about the services that will be offered at their new 'flagship' branch on English Street and encouraged customers to get in touch if they have any queries.
The said: "At our new flagship branch, customers can expect to experience our branch of the future which has been refurbished to a high standard.
"Customers will benefit from more space, there’s step-free access for customers who require more support and we’ll continue to provide the same award-winning customer service from our brilliant branch colleagues.
"If you have any questions, please feel free to pop in and discuss those with one of our colleagues or call us on 01228 403141."
