FANS of freshly baked bread and cakes are urged to nominate their favourite bakery for the News & Star's 'Best Bakery 2024' award.

Online nominations for the award will close at midnight on Sunday, August 25, and ahead of this deadline, Cumbrian bakery lovers are urged to get behind their favourite.

Following this stage of online nominations, News & Star readers will then be able to vote for their 'Best Bakery 2024' from a selection of ten finalists by picking up editions of the News & Star between Monday, September 2, and Saturday, September 14, with the winner set to be announced on Monday, September 23.

The competition aims to celebrate local bakeries in North and West Cumbria and speaking after its launch, Joy Yates, regional editor for Newsquest Cumbria asked readers to support their favourite bakery.

She said: "Who can resist the delicious smell of bread and baked goods as you walk past some of the wonderful bakeries in our county?

"Whether you’ve a soft spot for pies and pastries, or prefer cakes and cookies, no doubt you have your favourite go-to bakery.

"Make sure you do so before the closing date of Sunday, August 25."
