Thousands of teenagers across Carlisle will be collecting their A-Level and GCSE results this week, with years of hard work hopefully paying off.
Those who have lived through it remember all too well the fluttering nerves, the clench of anticipation, and the dizzying mix of hope and fear that define A-Level and GCSE results days.
For many, results days are a rite of passage, marked with ritual stops: the hurried breakfast that goes uneaten, the anxious gathering of friends at the gates of the school, the envelopes that hold futures within their thin paper walls.
A pivotal moment in life when the future felt both daunting and exhilarating. The results may have opened doors, or they may have forced a change of direction, but they certainly don't determine your entire career.
For those collecting A-Level results, it may signal the end of their education and the beginning of a 9-5, whilst others look forward to their next few years at university, or as an apprentice.
We have decided to look back through our photo archives at some of the moments of joy Carlisle students experienced when collecting their results.
Much has changed in the last 10 years, with GCSEs now graded using a numerical system from nine to one, rather than A to E, as was previously the case.
The journey after A-levels is often a far different one now too, with fewer people opting to go down the traditional route of university.
But one consistent in that Jeremy Clarkson will probably always be there to remind students on X (formerly known as Twitter) that exam results don't define your future success.
Certainly, results days can be a mixed experience, but hopefully those looking back on these photos of their younger selves will remember the day with happiness and pride.
