AN Olympic gold medalist and former World Player of the Year have hosted a summer camp at Carlisle Hockey Club.

The camp was held at the club on Etterby Scaur on Tuesday, August 13, and was led by Argentinian international Delfina Merino who has over 300 caps for her country and was named World Player of the Year in 2018.

Merino also counts two Olympic silver medals from London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 and an International Hockey Federation World Cup win in 2010 amongst her various accolades.

The camps were organised by English hockey legend Maddie Hinch's MH1 Coaching, with Carlisle featuring as one of only seven selected venues across the UK.

Hinch, a double Olympic medalist, including gold at Rio 2016 was also in attendance at the camp.

At the local event, sessions were catered to both goalkeepers and goal scorers with both under-18 camps for those aged 7-17 and adult camps for those aged 18-80.

After the event, Carlisle Hockey Club called the camp with Merino and Hinch an 'incredible experience'.

A spokesperson for Carlisle Hockey Club said: "Hosting the MH1 camp at Carlisle Hockey Club was an incredible experience.

We welcomed players of all ages from across the county, providing inspiration for our future athletes.

"Delfina Merino, Maddie Hinch, and her exceptional coaching team led the sessions with remarkable insight.

"We were in awe of the international players and their extraordinary skills."
