Coastguards were deployed after reports of a boat on fire in Cumbria.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, with colleagues in Maryport and partner emergency services, were sent out after a 999 call was received reporting the boat on fire on the shore of Derwentwater.
With multiple agents en route, firefighters arrived on the scene and reported that it was a controlled fire on private land near the water’s edge.
“With this information provided, we were stood down.
“Whilst thankfully not the case today, it serves as an opportunity for us to remind boat owners to routinely check and confirm your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are fitted and working correctly onboard, just as you would at home,” a spokesperson from Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said.
