Carlisle Cathedral has been awarded a grant of £12,000 from the Cathedral Music Trust and Edington Music Festival Association.
This funding will support the new ‘Harmony Under the Stars’ project over the next two years, with the aim of providing a strong musical education for the choristers.
This funding forms part of a national programme of grants given by Cathedral Music Trust, with almost £500,000 awarded throughout the country.
This is the largest annual sum Cathedral Music Trust has ever distributed through its regular financial support programmes and will support many Cathedrals and parish churches in their offering of choral and organ music.
Mr Mark Duthie, Director of Music, said, “We are delighted to have received this grant for our chorister training programme.
“Singing lessons are a key part of the development of our choristers as musicians and singers.
“This funding will support our Harmony Under the Stars project with the aim of providing a solid musical education for all our choristers now and into the future.”
