A WOMAN from Carlisle has denied mistreating a pet dog.
Abbi Simmons, 31, faced two counts to which she entered pleas at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday (Monday).
The first alleges causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, namely a bull-breed dog called Zeena, in January at an address in Carlisle. The charge alleges she failed to investigate and address the causes of the dog’s poor condition and weight loss.
The second charge alleges she didn’t seek proper veterinary care for the dog’s state.
Now living in Southampton, Simmons pleaded not guilty to both counts and was granted unconditional bail.
Simmons initially appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court in August this year, but did not enter pleas to her charges, and had her case adjourned.
Her trial has been scheduled for April 17, 2024, at Carlisle Crown Court.
