A new charity shop has opened on a town-centre high street.

Age UK, a nationwide charity for elderly people, has opened a new shop on Wigton’s Main Street.

A spokesperson from Age UK West Cumbria said: “This shop will embody charity shopping, but not as you know it.

“Age UK West Cumbria currently has six charity shops in West Cumbria including our two ‘Vint-Age UK’ shops which showcase a range of beautifully curated vintage treasures.

“Our new and fresh high street shop will provide a wide range of goods which are well priced, enabling us to generate more income to support our charity to do even more for older people in West Cumbria whilst promoting sustainability, up-cycling, and community.”

The new shop opened officially today, with the mayor of Wigton cutting the ribbon to make it official.

“Please come along and take a look at our lovely shop, and talk to our fabulous staff about how we can support older people, and the beautifully curated range of goods in stock.

“To celebrate our launch we will have refreshments on offer – so pop in to see us and you won’t be disappointed,” the spokesperson concluded.
