WARRANTS conducted in Maryport as part of a joint operation have led to the arrest of a 44-year-old man for possession of a firearm and crack cocaine. 

The Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team teamed up with the Intelligence Unit, Task Force and Community Serious and Organised Crime to conduct an operation in Maryport today (May 26).

During the operation, they conducted two Misuse of Drugs Act warrants on Station Inn and Mulgrew Close.

Both warrants were positive.

The 44-year-old man from Maryport remains in police custody.

A woman is also to be interviewed for possession of a controlled drug of class A – heroin.

Detective Constable Emma Davidson from the Intelligence Unit said “This is another successful operation between the Intelligence Unit and Neighbourhood Policing Team to tackle issues within our community.

“By working together with our Neighbourhood Policing colleagues, we can build out intelligence on issues and target individuals as we have done today through these warrants.”

Also speaking on the operation community beat officer for Maryport Sam Steele said: "As the dedicated officer for the area it’s great to work with other departments such as the Intelligence unit to tackle the local issues I am seeing in the community.”

The police are looking to challenge drug use within the area and are appealing to the public to inform them of suspicious activity on streets; suspicious people and vehicles; drug supply and any concerns.
