Gallery 4a has announced its latest exhibition, "The Old and The New", featuring the works of three artists: Dorothy Ramsay, Andrea Kershaw, and Steve Meyfroidt.

The exhibition will be on view from April 1 to April 14, 11am-4pm Tuesday to Saturday, 1-4pm Sunday, with an opening evening on Thursday, April 6 between 4-7pm.

"The Old and The New" explores methods of producing original experimental and traditional prints by three talented artists, each of whom brings their own distinct style and approach to their work.

Dorothy’s love affair with printmaking started over 60 years ago with etching, drawing on metal that is dipped in acid to make a line that will hold ink. She said: "I now enjoy messing with traditional methods and mixing different techniques, usually making one-off mono prints rather than editions.”

Andrea’s recent Master’s degree work concentrates on the landscape, visually documenting her walk of The Ullswater Way over a two year period, she said: “Through the exploration of the area, experiencing the environment in detail and considering a view over and over again, I hope to interpret and suggest the evoked response that I feel, when immersed in the elements of the place”.

Steve is midway through his second Bachelor’s degree, using a scientific background to combine digital and traditional techniques in work that explores the Big Bang and the strange quantum world inside atoms.

In addition to the prints on display, a collection of Dorothy Ramsay’s paintings will be presented upstairs, and the artists will be available at points throughout to discuss printmaking, including techniques that can be tried at home with little equipment.

Don't miss your chance to experience "The Old and The New" at Gallery 4a, Corney Place (near to the Town Hall), from Saturday, April 1 to Friday, April 14 11am-4pm (closed Mondays). The exhibition is free and open to the public.
