Verey Books, Ullswater’s independent bookshop, marks the advent of Spring with their next Words on Wednesday event.
On Wednesday March 15, join author Karen Lloyd, editor of North Country Anthology of Landscape and Nature for an evening of readings and conversation.
This event at Verey Books will celebrate a number of Lake District voices, including fell-runner and writer Jules Carter on Scafell Pike, Jack Threlfall Hartley on place names and poets Harriet Fraser, Polly Atkin and Katie Hale amongst others.
A spokesperson said: "North Country celebrates the many landscapes of the North of England, from wide estuaries, dramatic fells, winding rivers, rushing waterfalls, ancient woodlands and much more.
"Though stereotypes of dark satanic mills and “bleak” moorlands persist, North Country reveals a far richer place where historic and contemporary voices rub shoulders with new and emerging writers, and where nature manifests as an intrinsic part of our urban landscapes.
"From the Brontës to Thomas Bewick, Sarah Hall, Mark Cocker, Lemn Sissay, Zaffar Kunial, Helen Mort, Simon Armitage and many more, this essential volume reveals unanticipated perspectives on place and identity. In this one-of-a-kind anthology, together they show that North Country is indeed a place apart."
