Carlisle fighter Danny Christie says he has quit his job to give more focus to his bare-knuckle boxing career.

The Currock man has made a bright start to life on the BKFC scene with two victories from his first two fights.

And now the 37-year-old says he has made an "enormous decision" to leave his scaffolding job so he can devote more time to making the most of his potential.

It comes two weeks after fight experts predicted Christie could be a "star" in the bare-knuckle scene.

The Carlisle boxer revealed on his YouTube channel that he will not be returning to his scaffolding job.

He said: "I've got a year left fighting. If I can get three or four fights in next year, that's me done, by next Christmas.

"I want to maximise my potential. I want to train like a pro. I want to give this my heart and soul, for the next year.

"I've got myself in decent shape and I've had good results already, doing it round a full-time job. What's my full potential for the next year if I give this my everything?"

Christie defeated Bristol's Darren Godfrey at BKFC Newcastle last month, having beaten Terry Brazier at Wembley Arena on his BKFC debut in August.

After the Newcastle fight, former mixed martial arts star Chris Lytle, commentating on BKFC’s coverage, said: “I know it’s only his second fight, but in my opinion, you can see Danny Christie has all the makings of being a star in this."

Christie said his decision to quit work was "possibly the biggest decision I've ever made since I decided to actively pursue a life without the use of substances."

He added: "This decision hasn't come overnight, it's not impulsive or a knee-jerk decision. I've thought long and hard about it.

"I always said I wanted to be in a position where I didn't have to work full-time. Today's the day that I decided to stop working.

"I don't have fortunes. I have a little bit of money tucked away. But for me it's now or never. Why wait? is what I told myself today.

"All my life I've focused and given time and attention to the things I didn't have, always wanted more. And guess what - I never had enough.

"Since I've been clean, and I'm proud to announce I'm eight months clean, I've practiced gratitude for the things I already have.

"That's what my focus, time and energy goes into.

"Time is something nobody can buy. I know I can maximise income over here, minimise spending over there, and I'm certain that I'm going to be just fine.

"I'm gonna put my heart, soul and valuable time into what's going to benefit me and my time the most.

"I'm very proud to be in this position. I feel very grateful. For someone that's worked all his life, never had much in terms of material wealth. But now I have enough.

"Training. Fellowship. Being a dad. Concentrating on the deap, meaningful and loving relationships I have, and enriching those with the time I have."
