Carlisle United have been fined £3,000 for their part in the on-field bust-up at Walsall.

Their opponents have also been fined £1,500 after a host of players clashed in a post-match melee.

United have confirmed they accepted a Football Association charge following the incident.

They admitted breaching FA Rule E20.1 in the FA Cup second round tie at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday, November 26.

Walsall also admitted the charge.

“Both clubs admitted failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion following the final whistle of their tie in the FA Cup,” a statement said.

“Their fines were imposed during a subsequent hearing by an independent Regulatory Commission and its written reasons will be published at the earliest opportunity.

“The size of the sanction reflects previous offences.”

The bust-up took place shortly after Walsall’s 2-1 victory which they secured with two late goals.

The FA say the written reasons for the decision will be published "at the earliest opportunity".

United manager Paul Simpson, speaking after the incident on the day, claimed unused Blues sub Jamie Devitt was left with a black eye.

He said it happened after Devitt had approached Walsall player Jack Earing, who was winding up the travelling Carlisle fans.

"Dev said he doesn’t know what happened after that but somebody came and sort of rag-dolled him, then belted him," said Simpson, adding that he did not know who was responsible for the punch.

Walsall boss Michael Flynn described the post-match scenes as "a few handbags" but also apologised to Simpson for the behaviour of some of his players who banged on United's dressing room door during their celebrations.
