RICHARD Hammond's 'favourite' hotel in Buttermere has explained why so many people love the lakeside village.

In a recent short film for 'What Next?', Richard Hammond labelled the Lake District village of Buttermere as his favourite place in the world.

In the feature he shared fond memories from his various visits to the Village and in particular he visits to the Bridge Hotel.

This Hotel in Buttermere is where he met his best friend Les, who owns a farm in the village and where he ultimately fell in love with this patch of the Lake District.

In the short film Richard Hammond says that the beer garden of the Bridge Hotel may be his 'favourite few square feet on Earth."

As the feature rolls on he rants and raves about some of his other favourite things to do in Buttermere.

Now, the Bridge Hotel is giving its own verdict on why so many people, including Richard Hammond love Buttermere.

Ray Cross is the general assistant at the hotel and explained why he and so many others adore the lakeside village.

He said: "I have worked in Buttermere for 25 years, and can safely say the thing that most people ( including myself) love about it is its natural beauty. In any season, be it rain, shine, snow or ice there is always a majestic beauty to it.

"The way the views fold out when travelling over Honister or Newlands Pass, the calmness of the Lake, the unrivalled views from Haystacks or Red Pike."

Mr Cross also described the almost primal nature of Buttermere which contributes to it's allure and the successes of the hotel.

He said: "Then we have the village charm – sheep walk freely, often holding up the traffic, the working farms all producing work for the locals and tourist information a lot of the times to the visitors.

"As a business, we are lucky to be in such a great location with all this on our doorstep."
