A Whitehaven based retailer has raised concerns over the Post Office facilities available in the town.

Michael Moon who owns a book store explained that he has been having issues using the Post Office in the WH Smith store on King Street.

Mr Moon explained that he regularly uses the service to deliver his books to people across the world, but says he has had issues with the service.

He said: "Whitehaven deserves better than just one post office, it has been known to close at very short notice. This is what I do for a living as a retailer and it is stopping me from being able to do so. I'm not alone in this."

A Post Office spokesperson said: "We’re sorry to hear the experience a local retailer has had at their Post Office. We know our branches play a vital role in supporting small and independent businesses with mails and banking services in particular.

"There have been short term staffing issues owing to sickness at Whitehaven Post Office on King Street which have regrettably impacted trading hours.

"We want to apologise to our customers for this. Additional staff have been brought in to support on a temporary basis, and the branch is also currently recruiting for a vacancy."
